Certification Exam Information & Schedule

TESTING ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible to test, candidates must have successfully completed an approved Arizona Certification Program within the past year. Candidates have 3 testing attempts within one year, to pass the certification testing process after completing a certification program.  If unsuccessful after 3 attempts, a candidate must complete another program to be eligible for additional testing opportunities.

Test dates and times are subject to change  

To schedule a test, please contact Melina Joya at melina.joya@azcfse.org , at least 2 weeks prior to the date you select below, and include the following information: 
  1. Candidate Name
  2. AzSTARS EIN Number
  3. Candidate Phone Number
  4. Candidate Email Address
  5. Program Sponsor (Community College or Department that conducted your Program/Academy)
  6. What date/location do you want to schedule for? (See schedule below)
  7. Type of Exam(s) Needed (i.e. Firefighter I, HazMat FRA & FRO, Firefighter I & II, Fire Instructor I…)
  8. Written/Practical Skills or Both? (Practical Skills testing is not available in our Avondale office)
No walk-ins will be allowed to test. Refer to the schedule below for available test dates/locations


IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT TESTING OPPORTUNITIES
The majority of testing opportunities are held in May and December as the Spring and Fall semesters end.  Testing dates/locations are only added to this schedule after dates have been confirmed.  Check back often, this schedule is updated as testing opportunities become available.


CERTIFICATION EXAM SCHEDULE

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR THOSE SCHEDULING TO TEST AT AzCFSE's TESTING SITE IN AVONDALE:  If you are experiencing any type of illness, even if only a mild cold, you should not attend your scheduled exam and will need to reschedule for another date.  Upon arrival at the testing site, we are asking all candidates to wait outside of the building until we get a temperature reading from you. Anyone with a temperature at 100+, coughing or experiencing any cold/flu like symptoms will be sent home. **We will require that you wear an appropriate face covering/mask while in the building at the Avondale testing site, and during your exam.

Avondale is following guidance provided by the State Governor’s Executive Orders:  https://azgovernor.gov/executive-orders. Effective Sunday, June 21, 2020, the wearing of face coverings by employees and customers will be required in all city facilities, retail establishments, convenience stores, grocery stores, pharmacies, gyms, indoor sports or activity facilities and medical offices. Additionally, these businesses will be required to post notice of these requirements at their entrances.


**FIREFIGHTER I & II OR HAZARDOUS MATERIALS FRA & FRO WRITTEN EXAMS:
    (Test candidates are provided 1.5 hours to take a Firefighter exam and 1 hour for HazMat, unless noted otherwise)

IMPORTANT NOTE: Written retests for Hazardous Materials Awareness & Operations, Fire Inspector, Fire Instructor, Fire Officer or Fire Investigator may be taken during a scheduled Firefighter written exam. (See schedule above for HazMat & Firefighter written exams)
