Firefighter Memorial Service

Arizona's fallen firefighters will be honored at a memorial service conducted during the Fire School opening ceremonies on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at 8:30am.  The service will include a memorial bell ceremony conducted by the Mesa Fire Department Honor Guard Bagpipe and Drum Corps.  The service will recognize all members who have served regardless of the cause of death including non-line-of-duty and post retirement deaths.

Please provide the names of any fire service personnel that have passed away between August 2011 and August 2012 that you would like honored at the Memorial Service.  You may forward the information, including the individual’s name, department represented, and years of service to:

Firefighter of the Year

United Fire Equipment will present the Firefighter of the Year award during the Fire School opening ceremonies.  The individual recipient is honored based on heroic achievements or contributions to life safety.   Further information and nomination forms may be obtained from United Fire Equipment.



Fire Investigator of the Year

The Arizona Chapter, International Association of Arson Investigators will name the individual who has been selected as a result of their exemplary skills in the field of fire investigation.   Further information and nomination forms may be obtained from the Arizona Chapter of the IAAI.



Arizona Fire & Life Safety Educator of the Year

Each year the Arizona Fire and Burn Educators Association selects a Fire and Life Safety Educator of the Year.   The individual awarded this honor has made significant contributions to Fire and Life Safety Education, demonstrated outstanding work as an educator, has been successful in increasing public awareness about safety issues, serves as a positive role model in their community and exhibits a commitment to excellence in their educational efforts.Further information and nomination forms may be obtained from the  Arizona Fire and Burn Educators Association



Arizona Fire Service Hall of Fame

The Arizona Fire Service Hall of Fame was created by the Arizona State Fire Training Committee to honor the men and women who have provided distinguished service to the Arizona fire service.  The inductees are selected from nominations received statewide, from within the fire service and beyond.  Inductees to the Hall of Fame will be announced and honored during the opening ceremonies.



Volunteer Firefighter of the Year

Historically the volunteer firefighter has been the backbone of the delivery of fire and emergency services.  Today this dedication is still exhibited in many fire and emergency service organizations within the State of Arizona.  The Volunteer Firefighters of Arizona (VFFA) feels strongly that it is important to recognize this dedication and commitment of the volunteer to their community.   Further information and nomination forms may be obtained from the VFFA.
